The story behind Reinforce Pilates

My name is Florentine, and before founding Reinforce Pilates, I spent several years in the high-tech industry in Dublin and Amsterdam. At a certain point in my life, I felt the need to give more meaning to what I was doing. A sports enthusiast, especially passionate about kitesurfing, I discovered Pilates in 2018. This practice transformed my perspective on movement: it allowed me to strengthen my body, better understand how it works, and find a valuable balance in my daily life.

Always fascinated by the human body and its mechanics, I realized that Pilates could offer tangible and lasting benefits to everyone. Over time, it helped me improve my strength, mobility, and overall well-being, and this realization deeply impacted me.

Through conversations with my students, I discovered that many shared this “before and after” Pilates experience: more vitality, better posture, and newfound ease in their daily and athletic activities.

It is this conviction that led me to create Reinforce Pilates: a space where everyone can feel supported, understood, and guided towards achieving their goals, whether it’s pushing athletic limits or simply moving with more comfort and confidence in everyday life.

FAQ

Question : What should I prepare for my first class ?

Answer : We recommend arriving 10 minutes before the start of the class to get settled. Pilates is practiced in socks, and non-slip socks are mandatory for Reformer classes. You can purchase them at the studio or at other sports stores. There’s no need to bring your own mat as they are provided, along with small towels for your comfort. Don’t forget to bring a water bottle, which you can refill on-site.

Question : I’ve never done Pilates, can I sign up for a class ?

Answer : Absolutely ! Our “Basics” classes on Mat or Reformer are specifically designed for beginners and accessible to all levels. Alternatives and adjustments will be provided throughout the class to ensure you feel comfortable and confident. Our small group classes allow for personalized attention to each participant. You can also choose an Individual Class, where we’ll review the 5 fundamental Pilates principles and the basics to help you feel confident before joining the group classes.

Question : Do you have showers?

Answer : No, we do not have showers at the studio. However, a mixed locker room is available, along with toilets and a sink to freshen up after your class.

Question : I am injured, can I come to a class?

Answer : Pilates is an excellent tool for rehabilitation, but only at certain stages of the healing process. After the initial phase of injury management (pain and inflammation reduction), Pilates helps correct the factors that may have caused the injury, restore flexibility, balance, and strength, and guide you back to functional and athletic movements. Whether you have a recent or chronic injury, each case is unique, so it is important to contact me before your first session to discuss your situation and see what is possible.

As this follow-up needs to be detailed and personalized, individual sessions are usually the most suitable for rehabilitation. These sessions allow us to work specifically and in collaboration with your osteopath, physiotherapist, or doctor. We can then restore your range of motion and prepare your body for daily and athletic activities. Once these foundations are solid, you can join our group classes, including specific classes for lower or upper body issues, to continue maintaining your fitness while considering your particular needs.

Please note: If your injury is recent (less than 14 days), it is important to allow the healing process to unfold. The remodeling phase begins after 14 days, where we will first work on isometric and eccentric exercises to lengthen the muscle. Then, we will gradually add concentric exercises, flexibility, balance, strength, and endurance. If your injury is recent, we will schedule a Pilates session after the 14-day period, in agreement with your doctor.

Question : I am pregnant, can I come to a class?

Answer : Doing Pilates during pregnancy offers many benefits, such as faster recovery after childbirth, better weight management, and optimal physical preparation for the upcoming changes. However, it is important to get your doctor’s approval before starting.

We offer classes specifically designed for pregnant women, as it’s essential to adapt exercises during this unique period. For example, from the second trimester, it’s advised to avoid exercises on the back to prevent compressing the vena cava. Our classes also focus on strengthening the upper body to help you prepare for carrying your baby after birth. The hormone relaxin, present during pregnancy, softens the ligaments, increasing the risk of injury. Our exercises are therefore adapted to protect your joints while maintaining your fitness.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me before starting. It’s important to join classes specifically dedicated to pregnant women to ensure your safety and tailor the exercises to your needs. It’s also a great opportunity to meet other expectant mothers and share this unique experience.

Question : What if I can’t make it to my reservation?

Answer : If you can’t attend your class, you can cancel for free up to 24 hours before the start of the session. After that, the credit will be automatically deducted. You can easily cancel your reservation via our online platform.
